Testing Options

We believe in a “test, don’t guess” philosophy because you are unique and your body functions and responds differently. The best way to achieve optimal health is to uncover what is really going on with you! Below is a list of the unique metabolic testing options that allow for results above and beyond the traditional testing methodology. All labs are administered and results are reviewed on an individual case basis in collaboration between Derek Johnson (founder of New Metabolism/primary nutritionist), doctors on staff from respective laboratories as well as with a select group of highly-regarded physicians across the country.

Comprehensive Metabolic Profile
This test provides insight into how your body functions, how effectively it responds to and processes foods as well as measures the oxidative damage to your DNA. It is a comprehensive evalutation of how your body is running and what it needs to function optimally. See this video featuring Dr. David Brady describing it in more detail here.
IgG Food Allergy Test
Researchers estimate that at least 60% of the U.S. population suffers from unsuspected food reactions that can cause or complicate health problems. These reactions are difficult to identify since they can occur hours or even days after consuming an offending food. Symptoms can be extraordinarily diverse, ranging from arthritis to eczema to migraines. For that reason, many health professionals routinely consider food allergies or intolerances when evaluating a patient’s health problems. This profile tests for sensitivity to 30 of the most commonly positive food antigens.
Fatty Acids: Fish Oils
This test measures your body’s eicosanoid balance which detects “silent” inflammation that can lead to heart disease and other chronic and inflammatory processes. It also includes an index of omega-3 fatty acids which studies have shown can be used to estimate a person’s risk of dying from coronary heart disease (CHD). With many people loading up indiscriminately on fish oils, this profile can also detect omega-3 dominant patterns which can lead to increased peroxidation and immune suppression.
Antioxidant Profile (DNA Oxidative Stress)
This test evaluates the oxidative damage to DNA from the effects of toxic or disease states. The results provide a measure of total serum lipid peroxidation, an indicator of whole body free radical activity. Conditions and symptoms related to high lipid peroxide levels include aging, cancer, cardiovascular disease and strokes.
GI Effects (Fx) Profile
Healthy gastrointestinal (GI) function is vital for overall wellness. Poor digestion and malabsorption can lead to immune dysfunction, nutritional insufficiencies, and various disease states. Poor GI function can also lead to food allergies and other toxicities. Your intestinal tract contains significant amounts of bacteria, some beneficial, some neutral, and some that can be harmful. It is essential to know the microbial balance of your GI tract, especially if you have chronic health problems. Health-enhancing intestinal bacteria serve to prevent the overgrowth of potentially harmful bacteria in the gut.
Genetic DNA Test – Pathway Genomics
By analyzing your genetic code, the Pathway Fit® report provides personalized information and recommendations to help you understand your metabolism, eating behaviors and your response to exercise as well as the optimal ways to reach and maintain a healthy weight and lifestyle. Find out what your DNA has to say about how your body truly functions!
Adrenal Stress
Stress is a major underlying cause of many chronic illnesses. The Adrenal Stress Plus Profile measures your body’s response to stress. It is also an important tool for pointing to adrenal imbalances that may be impacting a patient’s health. This clinical test evaluates your body’s ability to adapt to environmental, mental, emotional and physiological stressors; adrenal dysfunction can negatively influence energy production; immune system health; skin regeneration; muscle and joint function; bone health; sleep and proper digestion.
Organic Acid
Is your body getting and using nutrients to drive optimal health? This test measures that as well as markers that assess intestinal health, neurotransmitter activity and detoxification demands. Nutrients are protecting agents that guard your heart, brain, and other critical organs. Your body has certain chemical indicators, known as organic acids that can alert you to potential problems. Many chronic health problems can be difficult to diagnose, especially when they involve nonspecific symptoms such as fatigue, foggy thinking, gastrointestinal upset, joint aches, sleep cycle disturbances, and more.
Amino Acids
This test measures amino acid imbalances. Amino acids makeup the proteins found in every tissue of the body and play a major role in nearly every chemical process that affects both physical and mental function. As a result, amino acids have more diverse functions than any other nutrient group, including: cellular energy production, formation of ligaments, tendons, bones, antibodies, as well as the regulation of enzymes and blood transport proteins, muscle activity and mood.
Celiac disease is a digestive condition triggered by consumption of the protein gluten, which is found in bread, pasta, cookies, pizza crust and many other foods containing wheat, barley or rye. When a person with celiac disease eats food containing gluten, an immune reaction occurs in the small intestine, resulting in damage to the surface of the small intestine and an inability to absorb certain nutrients from food. This test will accurately identify those who are likely to have this disease.
Toxic Profile (Heavy Metal Testing)
Toxicity can come from many different avenues – metals or even organic chemicals. This test measures seven porphyrins, total porphyrins, and two ratios to help identify the effects of metal toxicity and to see which therapy is right. This test can identify the level of biochemical damage caused by toxicant exposure, mercury’s effect in patients with amalgams, toxicity of patients before and during chelation therapy, the toxicity of therapeutic drugs and the possible differentiation of specific heavy metal toxicity.
Body Fat & Muscle Mass Composition
The InBody520 performs precise body composition, segmental lean analysis and body fat analysis in less than a minute. The number on the scale doesn’t provide the whole picture of where you’re at – but this machine does. It provides the breakdown between lean body mass versus body fat. Testing regularly is a great motivator for tracking your progress with your health and wellness routine.
